Buying a used phone in Pakistan carries risks — from hidden damage to blacklisted IMEIs. This checklist takes 5 minutes and can save you PKR 10,000+.
Step 1: Verify IMEI
Dial *#06# to get the IMEI. Cross-check on PTA's DIRBS portal (dirbs.pta.gov.pk) to ensure it's not blacklisted or reported stolen.
Step 2: Screen Test
Open a white image (Google search "white screen test") to check for dead pixels, yellow spots, or pressure marks. Then open black to check for backlight bleed on LCD screens.
On AMOLED screens, a static white/grey image burned in is permanent. Check carefully in bright light.
Step 3: Battery Health
- iPhone: Settings > Battery > Battery Health — should be 80%+
- Samsung: Settings > Device Care > Battery or use *#0228# dialer code
- Android (general): Use AccuBattery app for accurate reading
Step 4: Camera & Sensors
- Test all cameras (front, main, ultra-wide, telephoto)
- Check autofocus by moving phone in and out of focus
- Test fingerprint and Face ID
- Test proximity sensor (cover sensor during call — screen should turn off)
Step 5: Connectivity
- 1Insert your own SIM — check signal strength
- 2Test Wi-Fi connection
- 3Test Bluetooth pairing
- 4Check charging port with multiple cables
- 5Test 3.5mm jack if present
Never transfer payment before completing this checklist. Legitimate sellers will always allow a proper inspection.
